Terms of Use

Effective date: January 1, 2026. Last reviewed: May 2026.

By using defamationcalc.com, you agree to the following terms. Please read them before using the site. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

Informational Use Only

All content on defamationcalc.com — including the calculator, guides, FAQ, methodology, and editorial pages — is provided for informational and educational purposes only. Nothing on this site constitutes legal advice, legal representation, or professional advice of any kind. The calculator produces damage estimates based on documented patterns in defamation litigation; it does not predict the outcome of any specific case, and it does not account for jurisdiction-specific rules, individual case facts, the strength or weakness of evidence, or any of the dozens of other variables that affect the outcome of actual defamation litigation.

No Professional Relationship

Use of defamationcalc.com does not create an attorney-client relationship, a paralegal-client relationship, or any other professional relationship between you and The Click Lab or any member of our editorial team. No information you submit to or through this site — including calculator inputs — is protected by attorney-client privilege or any similar doctrine. Do not treat any content on this site as a substitute for advice from a licensed attorney who is familiar with the specific facts of your situation and the law in your jurisdiction.

Accuracy and Currency

We make reasonable efforts to ensure that content on defamationcalc.com is accurate and current as of the date of the most recent editorial review shown on each page. Defamation law is state-specific and evolves through judicial decisions, legislative amendments, and regulatory changes. We cannot guarantee that all content reflects the current state of the law in your jurisdiction. Laws change; statutes of limitations are modified; courts issue new rulings on per se categories, actual malice standards, and anti-SLAPP procedures. Always verify legal information with a licensed professional before taking any action.

Calculator Estimates

The defamation damages calculator produces estimates based on median outcomes from published jury verdict research and the methodology documented on the methodology page. Actual defamation damages vary enormously depending on facts that the calculator cannot capture: the specific content and reach of the false statement, the identity and credibility of the parties, the jurisdiction and the jury, the quality of legal representation, and countless other factors. The ±60% range shown in calculator results understates the true range of variation in defamation outcomes. Calculator results should not be used to make legal decisions or to evaluate the merits of a claim without consulting a defamation attorney.

Intellectual Property

All original content on defamationcalc.com — including editorial text, calculator code, methodology documentation, and guide content — is owned by The Click Lab and protected by copyright. You may share links to this site and quote brief excerpts with proper attribution. You may not reproduce, republish, or redistribute substantial portions of the content without written permission from hey@theclicklab.agency.

Third-Party Links

defamationcalc.com contains links to external resources including court decisions, government agencies, and professional organizations. These links are provided for informational convenience. We do not control external sites, do not endorse their content, and are not responsible for the accuracy, completeness, or privacy practices of any linked resource.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, The Click Lab, its operators, editorial contributors, and affiliates are not liable for any damages — direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or otherwise — arising from your use of defamationcalc.com, reliance on any content or calculator output, or inability to access the site. This limitation applies even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Some jurisdictions do not allow limitation of certain types of damages; in those jurisdictions, liability is limited to the minimum extent permitted by law.

Indemnification

By using this site, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless The Click Lab and its editorial contributors from any claims, losses, or damages arising from your use of the site in violation of these terms or in violation of any applicable law.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and, to the extent applicable, the state in which The Click Lab operates. Any disputes arising from use of this site will be resolved under those laws.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms periodically. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after a terms update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
